Canon Character Information
Appearance: Balthazar's true form can't be looked upon by humans without dire consequences. But his vessel is approximately 5'11, with short brownish-blonde hair, and blue eyes. He has a thin, muscular build.
Setting: Earth - just with angels, demons, and monsters, that people are largely unaware of.
History: http://supernatural.wikia.com/wiki/Balthazar
Personality: Balthazar outwardly appears to be a thief, irresponsible, sarcastic, and hedonistic. There's far more to him than he likes to let on, though.
He tries to deflect to a sense of irresponsibility in his Fall; why not abandon Heaven and give a more human life a shot with the freedom Castiel has given them all? Stealing the weapons and choosing to fake his death, leaving behind his family, was likely not such an easy decision. More than likely he left because, like Gabriel, he couldn't stand watching his brothers and sisters tear each other, and Heaven, apart. This also shows in his explanation to Sam and Dean as to why he sank the Titanic, and they were ready to believe that he was perfectly willing to change history because he didn't like the movie.
He likes humans far more than he lets Sam and Dean believe, although part of this might be that he harbours a bit of resentment towards them over their friendship with Castiel, to whom he's particularly attached.
In most situations he finds difficult, he tends to rely on his sense of humour to mask how he genuinely feels. This particularly shows in his confrontation with Castiel when he first discovers the deal with Crowley, trying to make light of Castiel getting into bed with a demon, then resorting to sarcasm as he tries to make clear his concern for the dangerous path his closest friend has decided to go down, in the confrontation with Atropos, and against Raphael.
